SEVEN things that annoy you:

I wouldn't say I'm annoyed by a lot. I can always stop reading. But some stuff that irks me:

1. Soapboxing/agenda fic that consists of talking heads evangelizing on why [any character, but often Spike] is [evil/Jesus], delete as appropriate.
2. Following from the above, character bashing (Riley the abusing rapist, Kennedy the shrieking harpy/villain) or adulation. Especially if the bashed character could be left out of the story without changing a single thing and is only there for the author to get their raaaaage on.
3. Wrongly punctuated speech.
4. The message board rant I saw yesterday that had this compelling argument against slash: "Krycek's so not gay, he had the hots for a woman!" Because... you couldn't possibly make the exact opposite argument by pointing out that he kissed Mulder...
5. Attempts to transcribe Spike's accent that make him sound like Dick Van Dyke's chimney sweep in Mary Poppins.
6. Harry Potter fics where Thanksgiving is celebrated in Britain. Okay, those amuse me rather than annoy me.
7. Angel calling whoever he's paired with - most often Spike or Willow - any variation on "Little One". Doubly so if he says it in 'Gaelic' *waits for lasultrix to throw things*

1. Reality is not reality, or reality breaking down. Given my kink for this you'd think I'd be more of a fan of The Matrix trilogy.
2. AUs that branch off from canon - cause and effect. "Well, if this had gone differently, what would have happened with this and this..." Special mention for My Favourite Plot Device, anything in which Jasmine wasn't defeated.
3. Character interaction. I'm happy with people just talking. I want to see how Dawn would interact with Angel, or Spike with Connor, or anything we didn't see a lot of onscreen. My love of obscure pairings comes directly from this. Somewhat related, because I have another one I want to use as my number 4, minor characters taking centre stage. Buffy fandom's terrific for this, because I can fixate on Larry or Snyder or Holden and there'll be fic *somewhere* about them.
4. I'm going to pull the 'not underage where I'm living' card and say high school romances. Any combination of Buffy, Willow and Cordelia - or maybe Anya or Amy - getting together season 1-3 is going to make me a happy bunny-type creature.

I'm suddenly reminded of the Americans at my Smart Kids Summer Camp all wanting to know how to say things in Irish, and being horribly confused by the fact that there wasn't any equivalent for 'I love you' in it.

A popular translation given to them was 'Tá grá mór agam duit' which looks rather clunky and translates as 'I have a big love for you'.

(Actually, it literally translates as 'There is a big love at me for you'. But we don't think about that or all our brains start exploding.)

Hope I don't fall under this category, though I have sort of written myself into a Connor-figuring-out-who-he-is wall in finishing_angel. But I'm not sure it's the same...

I'm having the hardest time finishing your Spike/Angel post-NFA fic. Hehe. Go figure...
