I took part in [livejournal.com profile] boniblithe's Feedback Challenge and was assigned [livejournal.com profile] docmichelle/Tigerlady. I've never read her work, so I was bouncily pleased to find that she has a Buffy/Pirates of the Caribbean crossover on her page. But I'll get to that in a minute.

By the Waters of Babylon

This is Cordelia-centric. I love afterlife fic, and my problem in giving feedback on this is Sixth Sense Syndrome where I don't want to give away the ending, but I loved that it turned my expectations on their head. I really liked the fantasy element of the whole thing, the technicolour heaven and the non-humans.

Sweet Tooth

Willow/Fred's one of my favourite pairings. This is a short piece but it has a wonderful split narrative, Fred's history and her abstract thoughts on sugar alternated with her meetings with Willow. I have a thing for use of repetition and I'm in love with the structure of this, the repeated 'sugar is bad for you' and the shift of who Fred's rock is. And it's just damn pretty. As always with Fred fics, science being brought into it somewhere makes me very happy, so I loved the aside about the effects of sugar on physiology.

Forty Tongue Lashes and a Bit of Parley

Anya tells Halfrek the story of how she was sent to wreak vengeance on one Captain Jack Sparrow. The author had me on the second sentence, with 'Brimstone Bar and Grille'. That name just tickles me. And then I was had again as soon as Halfrek spoke her first line, because Hallie needs more action in fanfic. The voices, both Anyanka's sharp, slightly huffy narrative voice (love the line Halfrek sighed hugely. Anya was pretty sure it was a habit she had developed specifically to emphasize her bosom) and Jack Sparrow's dialogue, are great. I could completely believe that Jack could talk and flirt his way out of being wished against, too.

All of her fics, including a Buffy/X-Men crossover and stories set around Brimstone and The Mummy, can be found here.

Forty Tongue Lashes and a Bit of Parley

Ok, that one sounds completely fantastic. And I've never read anything by her either, so that sounds exciting.

Hi! I'm from Co. Antrim too (Ballymena). I met some other LJ folks at a Buffy and Angel con this weekend. There are more N. Ireland folks around than you'd think.

Cool!

I just realised, I said County Antrim, but what I wanted to say was Co. Derry (Coleraine)

I was never able to find any and the ones I tried to talk to completely blanked me (rude..)

Anyway, cool. Would you mind very much if I added you?

Forty Tongue Lashes and a Bit of Parley

Okay, so I read that as 'Forty Tongue Lashes and a Bit of Parsley'. Which got me wondering as to what Jack would do with said parsley. And then I ended up with the mental image of Jack stuffing a chicken. *sigh* I think I'll go to bed, now.

parsley

Heh. My husband first read it as parsley as well. Which I find funny, because it fits that little seen where Jack is trying to come up with 'parley' and runs through a whole bunch of 'p' words.

And I imagine that he could make stuffing a chicken entertaining.

LOL.

Especially if the chicken was called Will... *whistles innocently*

Hi--thanks so much for the kind words! I'm especially tickled that you commented on Waters of Babylon. I haven't gotten any feedback on that one, and thought that maybe I was way off base with it. I really enjoyed writing it, so this was very appreciated.

Halfrek and Anya were so much fun to write--they pretty much wrote themselves. The hard part was keeping them on track! The part I was worried about was Jack's dialogue, so I'm glad to hear that you liked it. He's a tough nut to get words around, that's for sure.

Anyway, enough babble. This really made my day!
