And When You Sleep You Remind Me of the Dead (Angel/Wes/Cordy friendship) - it's Angel's POV, about Cordelia in the coma, and it nicked from one of my favourite lines of poetry, by Siegfried Sassoon:
You are too young to fall asleep forever;
And when you sleep, you remind me of the dead

I love the dual meaning of that last line. Cordelia looks almost dead but she also reminds Angel of everybody else he's lost.

Glitch in the Matrix (Cordelia/Lilah) - as in, 'deja vu is a...'. Fitted with the fic's theme of a constructed reality.

The Earth Beneath (Spike/Lilah) - the scene on the roof is a fairly obvious take on Satan tempting Jesus in the desert. This title is vaguely related to the creation of the world in Genesis. It's probably too biblical for a plotless, smutty fic with no point other than to get Spike and Lilah shagging...

The Monkey Grabbed His Neck and Said "Now Listen Jack" (Angel/Lindsey) - line from a Nat King Cole song called Straighten Up and Fly Right -
The buzzard took the monkey for a ride in the air
The monkey thought that everything was on the square
The buzzard tried to throw the monkey off his back
The monkey grabbed his neck and said "Now listen, Jack"

It fits with Lindsey as the monkey on Angel's back and also with Angel as Jack to Lindsey's Tyler Durden. Because I have to get my Fight Club references in somewhere.

Silent Upon a Peak in Darien (Ethan) - the title actually refers to the very last scene, Ethan seeing Dawn for the first time and realizing what she is and what that means. It's from a poem by Keats (On Looking into Chapman's Homer)
...felt I like some watcher of the skies
When a new planet swims into his ken;
Or like stout Cortez when with eagle eyes
He star'd at the Pacific—and all his men
Look'd at each other with a wild surmise—
Silent, upon a peak in Darien.





I've just noticed that a good 50% of my user icons are Spangel. So very much my OTP.

Oh, they start (I think, anyway) with that same quotation about Darien. Brought back childhood memories when you mentioned it.

Ohh, that's where it was so familiar from! When I found the poem I knew I'd heard it before but didn't remember that.
