AtS 4.14 Release
Mar. 13th, 2003 11:52 amBetter minds than mine have analysed already, so I'll just give my gut reaction...
-The Beastmaster's voice had me rolling on the floor. And the look on Angelus' face the first time he heard it... it looked like he was thinking "hello? God?"
-This episode was so well directed, especially the shower scene and Connor trying to vamp out in the mirror (shades of Faith in Who Are You)
-Don't get me started on the climactic fight scene, because I want to have babies with this show's stunt choreographer.
-These two female writers are reading my mind again! Cordy's line in Awakening about Angelus being smart (implying Angel's not) got Connorbeast and me snarking about how the Mayor could have convinced Angel to give up his soul just by showing him flashcards - one of souled Angel in a dunce's hat with a dorky expression, and one of Angelus looking thoughtful in a pair of reading glasses, seated in a leather armchair with a big, complicated book. Release gave me Angelus in glasses! And the hilarious "these don't work!" part.
-Wesley going darker. I like. I loved his taunting of Faith, which seemed so much more effective than Buffy's attempt to do the same with Spike and Willow in GID.
-HoYay! I expected Angelus to kiss Wesley when he had him by the throat. Or at least lick his neck. I loved the line about Wesley always being between Angelus and Faith. Yeah, that's a OTT (One True Trio) I could get behind.
-Lorne in the credits! Also my favourite touch of the episode - when we saw Lorne's name in the opening sequence,
marymac said "uh-oh. Seeing Red again. They're going to kill Lorne." Turns out they didn't... but he did get accidentally shot in the chest by a stray bullet (dart) aimed at the show's main character. Don't know if it was intentional, but I loved it.
-I hope Fred and Gunn get back together, but it's only because I don't want Wes/Fred. I don't actually hate Fred - if I were a Buffyverse character I'd be Fred - I just have no interest in seeing them together, unlike, say Wes/Faith, who are winning my Now That's What I Call Chemistry award this week.
-I reached a startling realisation during this episode: I love Connor. He's grown on me, and not just because
connorbeast is very much in love with him and so I get to hear about it a lot. The kid's had a crappy life and now, when he thinks he's found a family, is getting royally screwed over by Cordelius.
-Terrific ending. I was spoiled months ago and I still can't wait for next week.
-Right now I love this show way more than I love Buffy. And I loooove BtVS (I seem to be in the minority that loves season 7).
-Angel must get another season. Please?
