All human wisdom is summed up in two words - wait and hope.
--Alexander Dumas
After three days of non-stop noise, the rooftop's quiet was almost eerie. He rested his elbows on the ledge and looked down at the street below. A few fires burning, the occasional lights of a fire truck or ambulance flashing by, but nothing much to indicate it had all nearly been gone.
And last time he checked, he and Spike were still vampires. Nothing there to mark another potential End of Days averted, either. See? This was why it was better to think that prophecies were a load of crap. Pessimists didn't get disappointed.
Not disappointed at all.
He sighed.
Downstairs in the hotel, it probably wasn't quiet. Wesley would be gathering together a damage report, and the Slayers would be arguing over ordering take-out, and everybody would be deciding sleeping arrangements, and if he didn't want Spike stealing his old room he should get down there.
As he reluctantly moved to turn away, something caught his attention.
He watched as the snowflake drifted slowly down and settled on the back of his hand, not melting. Surprised, he looked up, but the sky was clear.
