(no subject)

My sojourn in the land of the unspoiled starts in two weeks (just yikes) so I'll throw out roughly the same challenge here as I put to Band of Buggered.

Help Doyle stay off the internet

Since I'm bound to get spoiled online (since naturally people are going to talk about the episode after it airs in the UK), I'm seeking offline recreation. I already have literally thousands of pieces of fanfic saved, but I'm looking for soemthing that won't tempt me to the computer. I'm thinking real books.

So what should I read? What books or authors have just grabbed you? What would you recommend to a 20-year-old Spuffy-shipping slash fan who'll read pretty much any genre? (Comics/graphic novels are a go too).

Discuss :)

Oh, dear me, Doyle, you may have unleashed a MONSTER in asking for that recommendation ... ;) I've got a couple of v. lengthy books posts in my memories thingie under Book recommendations. ;) And I've been reading a great deal of fantasy/speculative fiction lately, so if that's a genre that you find appealing - I'd be happy to recommend some stuff. My latest "discovery" is Garth Nix - LOVE his books. Sabriel, the first, is fabulous - and it's about magic and necromancers and a guilty tormented guy and the One Girl who can deal with the dead. See? Spuffy stuff all over the place!

I recommend reading spoilers.

Oh, wait. Guess that's not what you wanted to hear. ;)

My favorite novel is Oscar and Lucinda, by Peter Carey. Most of the fic I read is post-ep based on recent stuff, so I can't help you there.

Lol. I have evil friends who made me promise in September I'd go spoiler free. February seemed so far away then...

Ooh, you rock. Thanks!

Ahem. As I recall, your agreement to actually go spoiler-free was entirely voluntary. We didn't twist your arm or anything. And sides we have to live with the whining...
