Oct. 4th, 2003 07:26 pmMy student loan, and my last paycheck from my job, went into my bank account a few days ago. I'm not poor anymore! Said paycheck is being happily blown on DVDs right now at play.com. DVDs are my crack, except they're much more difficult to inject.
If I don't comment on people's journals for the next few weeks, or don't reply to comments or mail, I apologise. It's a bit hectic with the new semester and everything. I'm a terribly grown-up third year student now. (Is there an American name for that? I only know about freshmen and sophomores. And, by the way, just out of interest I looked up a few tuition costs at US universities, and may I say - holy crap! I will never complain again about our fees. Well, I will, but quietly.)
Ooh, I've now seen the first two Angel episodes.
The gay! Dear god, The Gay! Did Joss just decide over the summer that the show was called Five Gay Guys and Fred? I guess this is probably the slash-tinted contact lenses affecting my judgement, but... Wes and Gunn talking about Feng Shui, and Angel talking about spanking men, and the "little fairy" exchange... I all but shed one perfect tear for the beautiful HoYay.
Call me crazy, but I love Angel's new hair. I wish I could say the same for Gunn - somebody buy that boy a razor. His head-stubble frightens me.
Eve: meh. Didn't hate her, but it would've been nice if they'd done something, anything, to make it seem like she was a new character instead of having her walk, talk and act like Lilah. I really miss Lilah. And I suspect Wes doesn't remember her :sniff:
Harmony was a revelation. She's one of the very few characters I never liked much (and I love almost everyone. I like Kennedy.) I thought she was amusing in small doses, but she was hysterical in Conviction. The final line was genius.
I like the new format. A lot.
Ooh, and if anyone reading this is a Peter David fan, I've read the two latest Star Trek: New Frontier books. Gods Above isn't great, because it has to tie up all the cliffhangers and plot ends from the last book, but Stone and Anvil is an absolute riot. It's stuffed with pop culture references (the nod to Patrick Stewart's X-Men role is great) and I loved the storyline about Calhoun's Academy days - though I did think "Mr. David, Joss Whedon called, he wants Connor back. Oh, wait, he probably doesn't. Carry on."
