Angel spoilers

According to filmjerk.com, the Angel producers are casting for Wes's father, Roger.

The elder Wyndham-Pryce, listed as being in his late 50s or early 60s, is described as being “incredibly well-educated and articulate, albeit with a rather stern disposition.” The actor who is given the guest-starring role will film his scenes over 10 days in Los Angeles, beginning October 1.

According to our source, Roger is there to evaluate Wesley (played by Alexis Denisof) for possible reacceptance to the Watcher's Council. The visit is strictly business, as years of distance and unresolved issues make for a great deal tension between the two. Roger also strongly disapproves of Wesley's new workplace (he calls it "a haven of Hell") and the company he keeps, including Angel and Gunn.

I'm hugely intrigued at getting a look at Wes's dad. Sounds like it has the potential to be a very cool episode.

That's very interesting. I hope it's a Wes-centric ep. His character has so much potential that I'd hate to see him take a back burner.
I am surprised at introducing his father. It's not something I expected Wes to deal with face-to-face.

Question though. Does this mean that the Watchers Council is no longer blowy-uppy, and thusly reformed?

I love the smell of retcon in the morning :)

I assume some of the older Watchers (who were possibly retired - we don't know if Wes's dad was still working) survived the First's campaign and are trying to rebuild the council.

Oooh, great wankage! Kudos.

Roger doesn't sound British to me. Or at least British enough to name his son Wesley Wyndam-Price. And there's already a dad named Roger on the show. Roger Burkle. I hope they change the name.

Heh. I'm English, with an Uncle Roger, who's nearly 60 and therefore about the age Wes' dad would be, so I'd have to differ on that. Roger is quite a common English name; not so much for babies born now, perhaps, but for their older relatives, certainly.

OK, so I'm wrong on the Britishism part. Still, you think they could come up with another first name. Just like two out of three Buffy boyfriends were named William before they died. Find a baby book or something, ME!

You know for me the interesting thing about this is that I think this is the kind of plotline that they could do only with the kind of erasing of s4 that people are worried about for Wes. The Wes at the end of s4 did not strike me as the kind of guy who gave two shits about needing daddy's approval anymore. Any attempt to make him care would've fallen flat.

But erase just a little bit of that and get Wes a smidge closer to his s3 baseline and yeah, there's still dad issues.

So - possibly a silver lining in all those clouds.

I'd rather they had continued where they left off with Wes character development. Rather than having the mind wipe and addressing old issues.

I think the writers have no idea what to do with Wes. Hence, they're dragging up old issues. Fred, Watcher's council, daddy. And, I suspect all those issues to be resolved in ep. 7.

Hopefully they're clearing the dead wood because he's going to get a great new story that actually moves him *foreward*.

Boo-yah. Daddy-issues. Wes, daddy-issues. With a dad that didn't die with the rest of the Watchers, which somewhat surprises me. Also, continuity!yay!

The B-plot of the episode is hopefully Angel-Spike(and/or Connor) related. Because. I like being hit over the head, and this isn't just me being sarcastic. =)

Also, hi, came across your lj, because somebody on my friends-list mentioned you had spoilers, and, uh, you seem cool. Mind if I add you?

Sure! Your icon has my favourite line of poetry of all time, so I was all set to add you anyway :)
