Chosen at #8? I loved Chosen and I still think that's ridiculously high. I liked Harsh Light of Day but didn't think it was anything spectacular. There are a bunch, like Band Candy and Life Serial, that I would have put far higher, but it's the Chosen ranking that really surprises me. Especially since it placed 15 higher than The Gift. Clearly Im massively out of touch :p

Beer Bad was ranked last? Come on! Buffy had such great lines in that one like..."Buffy like beer." And who could forget "Buffy strong." Shakespeare, man, Shakespeare;)

DUDE!!! That's the lamest list ever. Beer Bad, worst episode of the entire series run? Dude! Lies My Parents Told Me, #22? Gah!!! Pangs is #122, lower than that hideous episode Ted?!?

WRECKED is #44?!? *sobs hysterically*

Was this ranked by fans, the SFX staff, or just some random people who've never watched/heard of the show?

Ahhhh! So many of my favorite episodes like "Blood Ties", "Intervention", and "Tough Love" are so freakishly low!

Intervention is at 110? WTF? And Hell's Bells at 143? That wasn't a great episode, but come on.

Seven of the top twenty episodes are from the first two seasons. Five are from the last three. Overall, the list makes me think that while they do a decent job of spreading things out, the writers tend to prefer the earlier stuff.

I'm curious about the gender of the writers. I've noticed that (amateur sociology here) for the most part, men prefer the plot/mytharc stuff, and women prefer character-centered episodes. Think about fandom online. Male fans tend to gravitate toward the general message boards, but character-centered forums like mailing lists and fanfiction are overwhelmingly female. I know we all love the show as a whole, but women tend to focus more on how things relate to specific characters we love, and men focus on how the characters relate to the overall show.

Again, huge generalizations there, but it's what I've noticed over the past seven years of participating in online fandoms. :)

As a broad generalisation that’s probably true. But from my experience on the general boards, most of the guys just related to different characters – when I was posting on the BC&S in seasons 4-6, they tended to be heavily skewed toward the Xander love, with odd touches of Riley, Angel and Faith. There is (was?) one very popular male-dominated B/X board (although there was a lot of emphasis on the importance of an 'arc' there, prehaps more so then on, say, BAPS ). There aren’t as many male fans, though, and certainly no ‘critical mass’ needed to get the kind of pull Spike, Spuffy and Bangel have There were also a surprisingly large number of men on the kitten.

Life Serial is 138? That episode had me laughing my ass off! My favorite quotes of the entire series are in that episode.

Largest travesty that I've noticed so far? AS YOU WERE AT #54?! WTF?!! As You Were is like... gaaaaahhh! Chosen? Too high dudes. I won't go into my "List Of Reasons That Make Me Dislike Chosen" rant because... no actually I will. Later.

Looking at the bottom, Gingerbread isn't actually that bad. I like it. And when you put it in the Post-Amends context, it's even more interesting. Life Serial definitely too low. Mummy hand sketch? Drunk Buffy? Kitten poker? Come on people...

Oh and, personal belief? The Yoko Factor: underrated.
