In the new Doctor Who magazine:

'Is there a link between the similarly-named characters of Gwen and Gwyneth? "None at all, " says Russell. "Maybe it's a Welsh thing, but those are completely different names to me. We're not about to reveal that she's a parallel-Gelth-ghost-from-the-Time-Rift,or something; just two names beginning with 'G'. It could've been worse: I could've called her Gina. Or George."'

I know that RTD frequently changes his mind or just lies - see also "there's no question of romance between Rose and the Doctor, if they ever kissed the series would die on its feet" - but I thought that was interesting.

Jack: I'll call you Gwen.
Gwen: I don't like Gwen!
Jack: It's either Gwen or George.
Gwen: Alright. Call me George.

sorry, I couldn't help myself :P

Huh. As soon as they cast her, I expected the season to end with some kind of Gwen/Gwyneth thing - it'd be kind of odd if there really were no connection at all.

He does love reusing actors, though, and names... it's not the first time Gareth Lloyd-Davies has played a Ianto Jones in an RTD production *g*

Hee. My name's Gwynne, and people are always calling me Gwen and I never notice it. And yet I did think there might be a Gwyneth-Gwen connection!

Hrm. That is a bit disappointing. I have to admit, when Bilis took her hands in the shop, I was dead certain he was going to show her Gwyneth and tell her she was the key to opening the Rift...

Having ranted like a loony on the subject, I feel (unusually) pleased with Mr Rusty there. Though I still want a parallel Torchwoood run by Gwladys.

Just realised I got the actor's name wrong... yes, he was in RTD's Mine All Mine (although the spelling's different, it's 'Yanto' Jones with a y)

Hee - actually, no. He is Hex, an audio companion of the Seventh Doctor, played by Philip Olivier. You might know him from Brookside or Hollyoaks?
