There's a series of about 80 Eighth Doctor books (the EDAs); Fitz is in something like 50 of them, during which time he gets snogged by the Doctor, realises he'd quite like to shag him if the opportunity presented itself, has a naked dream about Eight which he chooses to believe is not his subconscious trying to tell him something about his sexuality, tells a girlfriend of the week "you forced me to love you, with him it's the real thing" and, most importantly, gives up smoking on several occasions just to make the Doctor happy. Oh, and as of the end of the book series he's still with Eight, and since his standard outfit includes a ubiquitous black leather jacket, fanon has it that this is the coat Nine wears. wishfulaces did an Eight/Fitz manifesto (http://community.livejournal.com/ship_manifesto/157884.html) which I <3.
The EDAs are frequently confusing with massive arcs and that fact that for more than half of the run Eight has no idea who he is, having lost his memories after destroying Gallifrey (not the same destruction of Gallifrey in the series...) and suffering PTSD. They're also pure beautiful crack and I adore them.
