From Big Finish's latest Fifth Doctor audio:

"Here, are you Peri? Got a letter for you. Northern chap with big ears left it here about two years ago..."

ETA: from this play I assume Five so enjoyed Richard III's sarcastically Northern way of speaking - right down to "fantastic!" - that he based his ninth incarnation on the guy. Which makes sense, considering his sixth incarnation is a dead ringer for that Time Lord guard in Arc of Infinity.

ETA2: having listened to the whole thing I'm delighted that there's no twist where the 'Northern chap' turns out to be someone else: Five leaves a note in the TARDIS reminding any of his future selves that happen to be passing through the right time period to leave the letter for Peri. So, Nine acknowledged in a non-BBC production! I am very chuffed. And the "What the Shakespeare?" gag from The Unquiet Dead gets riffed on too.

Seriously? That's awesome. Wonder if there are any more new series refs around.

Since BF are banned fron referencing the new series, I'm expecting the reveal that it's a fake-out (the guy playing Richard III in the audio is doing a dead-on Eccleston impersonation, so I'm guessing he's the big-eared Northerner.) But still, squeeee. And they had Four in this one, getting around their lack of Tom Baker by drafting in the guy from Dead Ringers. O.O

I know they can't officially reference it, but if I were one of the writers, I'd so try and sneak little stuff in - which is what this has to be, fake out or not, the writer having a bit of fun. And having Culshaw in it... they so are having fun.

Hee! That's rather lovely. Must get hold of it, am a big Richard III nerd and thus keen to see what they do with it.

Oh, they're definitely having fun: the Doctor is being hunted by his publishers for not finishing the Doctor Who Investigates books he started when he was working for UNIT. I was joking yesterday that it was clearly canon the Doctor had written all the dodgy 70s tie-in non-fiction books himself!

I'm only half an hour in and already Five has got shitfaced drunk ("then what happened?" "I don't remember. I think that was when I fell over") and been propositioned by a serving wench who wants to sit in his lap ("um... you look about fourteen." "That's right, I am fourteen. That's a yes, then?" "That's a no, but thank you anyway...") About time they did a comedy, shame it doesn't have Turlough.

The scary thing is, I can actually sort of imagining him doing that. It's brilliant, I think I love it when fandom types have a sense of fun about things.

But dammit, we don't get to hear him drunk! Only a bit hungover, with Peri and Erimem talking about it. A woeful missed opportunity, BF (although I'm only halfway through episode 2, so I'm holding out hope)

*frzzt szztt brrrrrzzz wror ror ror ror rorrr ZZOT!*

Excuse me, my brain just broke. Switching to auxiliary backup power:

Did you actually say "Five in a Speedo"? I know it's an audio, but still -- how on earth did they manage that one?

I think Speedos are a crime against humanity and I've already seen Peter Davison in one and it isn't pleasant if you ask me (though it might not have been quite so awful without the disco boots and frizzy wig) but... somehow I find that I need to know.

lol...it's not stated. He and Nyssa go for a swim. She says he looks ridiculous. He says it was the height of fashion last time he went swimming. Dirty little leyamind filled in the rest. (and considering how she spends most of her time bitching about the skimpiness of her bathing suit...I really think if he'd gotten a suit a la Romana, he would have been a gentleman and offered it....)
