doyle: tardis (doctor - 10 (screw you)

(no subject)

The BBC announcer warned us all to get behind the sofa, which I thought was rather sweet. I have been informed American kids don't do this when scariness comes on TV - how are you all not dead?! (Or... are you dead?)

I have an exciting game! How long before someone on OG (or uncle Larry) posts their manifesto on how this episode was obviously a thinly veiled social commentary on the evils of stem cell research AND/OR makes the Doctor=Jesus comparison again? (Come on, that's an easy one, the 'baptism' in the lift, curing the lepers, the cured passing salvation on through touch: ooh, and nurses=nuns! The Doctor is Jesus!)

Ahem. Sorry, I was reading the "practically Jesus with a time machine (so he can't do sex because he's the messiah" thread on OG before this episode. It's an odd perspective to watch the show with.

Anyway, when my sheer joy at having my show back died down, I liked this one. I didn't think it was the strongest episode plotwise, but I enjoyed it a lot, especially David and Billie's performances as Cassandra, feeling herself up and snogging the Doctor (wouldn't we all?) Her turnaround at the end was pretty fast but as I am a big weepy girl I still welled up at the Doctor letting her to back to tell her younger self how beautiful she is. (I predict a thread on the Blinovich Limitation Effect within the hour, if there isn't one already)

Brief glimpses of Jackie and Mickey were very nice: is that the first time we've seen Rose and Mickey kiss since the very first episode? And he says "Ilove you" but she doesn't say anything... ouch, poor Mickey. Roll on him being a companion and all the inevitable Ten/Mickey, that's all I can say.

The Face of Boe's message: the only theory I've heard floating around is that it's There Is Another Skywalker Time Lord. Anybody got anything else? Because given how much Rusty hates the Time lords, I'm dubious...

Other disjointed thoughts:
- RTD's a Futurama fan, then?
- Hee, I like how most of the catnuns had veils. Saves on make up!
- I love Ten's preoccupation with the hospital's lack of shopping facilities.
- Rose seems to fancy Ten more than Nine. Quite a lot more.
- Bits of watching Tennant in this were like watching McGann in Withanil and I: I kept getting distracted by how pretty he is. Am I weasalsexual? *cries*

ETA: the commentary track is up on the BBC site.

Yes, we are actually all zombies. Which might actually explain some people like Dick Cheney....

Actually, I always pretended that I had to go to the bathroom at the scary moments.

I must be weaselsexual too, then, because I find Ten(ant) extremely fanciable. The Christmas special was bad enough, but now I'm gone completely...

My reaction on the Rose/Ten kissage? Disappointment, because she didn't do it with Nine and I so wanted them to get it on.
I keep imagining that Nine is trapped inside Ten's body, and I am warming to him (Ten). But he's not as pretty as Nine *pouts*

When I was a kid and got scared, I'd turn off the sound. Somehow less scary when the monsters are flailing around in silence.

My most traumatic TV childhood moment was flipping through the channels to catch the end of Raiders of the Lost Arc when the Nazis were melting away, and I was terrified and changed the channel. And had no idea what i'd just seen until I saw the movie like, 8 years later.

*snerk* Obviously a veiled commentary on animal experimentation, only this time the cats are breeding humans for their evil deeds.

Never trust cats. *grin*

Yeah, I thought about Blinovich, but then I fanwanked it: "Oh, if it's in a different body, it doesn't count, blah blah blah..." :-)

the only theory I've heard floating around is that it's There Is Another Skywalker Time Lord.

Romana's still alive!!!

The Doctor is Jesus!

That did not even occur to me. Not that I would buy it, but it's an interesting idea and I'm sure people will be having long discussions about it. I think I was distracted by 'The Matrix' meets 'Night of the Living Dead' scenerio to make any deep analysis.

I really liked CE as the Doctor, but, damn, DT has won me over fast. I really enjoy the levity and joy he brings to the role. He's a different doctor, yet when he realized exactly what was going on in the facility, the anger that CK portrayed so well came through. It helped tie the two characters together for me.

I have to agree there seemed to be much more of a romantic attraction going on here than in the previous series. Maybe because this Doctor is more open to the possibility and Rose is picking up on that? I was rather surprised by his reaction to the kiss. The "I still got it" says that was part of his life once and he wouldn't mind it being so again.

The Cassandra turnaround bothered me a bit. The fact that she felt the pain of the humans was interesting, but considering what we knew of her character I'm not sure it rang true nor do I want to see every character have to be redeemed.

hehee.. nah, Americans are all undead. Or at least I wish we were..

Nope. We benighted Americans don't hide behind the sofa, largely, I think, because we must be more prone to pushing the sofa right back against the wall.

My British husband, who for some reason exiled himself in this country, was talking with a friend's new boyfriend who's a big Who fan for the first time. He was all, "and I used to hide behind the sofa" and the fnewbf was all "why?" Ah the cultural gap.
