doyle: tardis (locke fuck your shit up)
[personal profile] doyle
I don't usually download Lost (I wait till [livejournal.com profile] connorbeast does it) and even this week, with me at my parents' and him far, far away, I would normally have thought "well, I'll see it whenever"> But then I heard it was a Locke episode and it became obligatory to download it right away.

I couldn't love Locke more. Even if he was a werewolf. Well, I might love him slightly more if he was a werewolf, but it'd be a close thing. He's not somebody I expected to become my favourite character, but the actor - Terry Quinn? O'Quinn? - is amazing. I watched this completely spoiled and still cried when he realized his dad had used him.

And he so loves Boone! Yeah, all right, as a son, let me have my OTP. His nightmare is Boone leaving him! I loved him banging on the hatch, broken and sobbing and demanding to know why the island would do this to him. And then the light came on. Eek.

Double eek: "there were no survivors of flight 815". And the person sounded so certain - they didn't think that the flight was lost, but that there were no survivors. Is a month long enough for everybody to be declared dead? I guess a plane just vanishing would be big news, enough for the person to recognise the number, but still...

Other stuff:
- the jump-cutting dream sequence scared the crap out of me. "Theresa falls down the stairs. Theresa falls up the stairs." Could just be my crackpot theory, but I had to wonder if Boone was a 'special' kid like Walt and he caused Theresa's accident.
- plane full of heroin? Excellent. Point Charlie that way. I'm bad for wanting something awful to happen to Charlie. I quite like him, in small doses (love Dom and all, just 'meh' on Charlie). Mind you, I haven't see the last couple of episodes. [livejournal.com profile] connorbeast says he's mean to Hurley, and that means he is as dead in our sight.
- speaking of, not nearly enough Hurley or Sayid this week. Sadness.
- god, Sun's beautiful. So is Jin. Those two actors are never allowed to reproduce together in real life, okay? The child of such a union would be too pretty to exist.
- the JackKate&Sawyer Triad of Whiny Uselessness didn't irk me as much as usual, probably because there was mocking of Sawyer. And I found him almost hot in his glasses. I was very frightened.
- I love the scene with the detective (?) and Locke. "He may not even know you exist. This stuff isn't meant to be. It may feel that way, but this won't have a happy ending." Ooh. Talking about Locke's father, but also about the island (Locke's faith in the island - he sees it as God? His father has that line about being God...)
- two leaps in logic I made: another car hit Locke as he sat at the side of the road, costing him his legs. And the little boy at the start was Boone. (I had to retract this, since the little boy has dark eyes and Boone's are light grey. But I still like it, and it explains why there was no cameo from another castaway in his flashback.)

I think this was my favourite episode so far. Really need to watch it again, maybe skipping the flashbacks since they broke my heart. Lots of Locke is always a good thing.

Dude, I don't even like Locke, and I was all sniffly by the end of that episode. I'm telling you, there's something about Terry O'Quinn- he can scare the bejeesus out of you one minute and break your heart into millions of little bits the next.

I've just finished watching it too and OMG. That show can creep the fuck out of me like no other. And I love Locke even more now.

I love Terry O'Quinn, and I really hope Locke sticks around and doesn't end up as a villain or anything. He's become my favorite character, and he's certainly one of the meatier characters on the show. Much moreso than the ever-annoying Kate.

You might try watching Terry O'Quinn in The Stepfather (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094035/) (I can't believe it's not out on DVD!). Yes, Shelley Hack is a co-star, but TOQ puts in a riveting performance.

I loved last night's episode. Stuff happened! There was an emotional puzzle and events occurred and...!

Well, I might love him slightly more if he was a werewolf
Crossover. Of. Love.

It's not inconceivable! One of the polar bears might be a were...polar bear.

Okay, that would be insanely amusing.

I was convinced all along Locke was evil, and then he just shattered my heart into little bits.He really believes in the island and it took Boone everything away. And then the hatch! The light! Eek!

Thanks for the movie rec!

Maybe he is a werewolf. Has there been a full moon on the island?
Could he be the monster in the trees?

I didn't even notice Sayid wasn't there. That's how pleased it made me.

So much love for Locke. And pretty, dumb Boone, the poor tool.

Hee! He was there! He was the one who broke apart and remade glasses that would fit Sawyer!

Although I have to say, when they started talking about the headaches, I was all "next week on Lost, Jack performs brain surgery"

You know, they've never said Locke *isn't* a werewolf. That makes it almost canon! (Someone on F_W used this argument to prove how Krycek could have survived in the X-Files - the creators never said Krycek didn't have an adamantium skeleton a la Wolverine - and I love that logic.)

A were-bear!

One touch I *loved* was that the heroin was hidden in the Virgin Mary statues. Talk about un-immaculate conception. (*foregoes rant on what an IC is*) There were hints aplenty - the smuggler dressed as a priest - that faith is, er. Superficial? Tricksy?

Plus, Boone. And Swoosie Kurtz in that hideous coat, and the matching of Locke's shirt in the flashback, bleeding post-hospital, to the present, covered with Boone's blood.

Also, Sayid making the glasses. *loves*

The glasses! As somebody with two very different contact lens prescriptions - I find it very hard to see if I put my lenses in the wrong eyes - I appreciated that they had to combine two pairs of glasses.

Sayid's so capable. I find myself watching it thinking "sooo, Sun's got her garden, Michael and Jin are building a raft, Sayid can do anything, Sawyer, you're... sitting reading. Okay, but at least Jack's training other people as backup medics - oh, no. No, he's not."

*would happily feed Sawyer, Jack and Kate to the werebears*

I knew I'd seen Terry O'Quinn before, and I finally figured it out when I was watching Season 2 of Millenium. He gave one heck of a performance last night, and I felt so dang bad for him when his father used him and tossed him aside like that. And then forcing his legs to work so he could carry poor Boone all the way back to camp? omg! Locke/Boone OTP!

I adored this episode. Locke is riveting in his trusting sagacity. And the dream freaked me out too. *loves adrenaline producing jump-cuts*

Does this mean that Boone is now paralyzed? Wouldn't that be a kicker?

Is a month long enough for everybody to be declared dead?

One of my many theories is that they are all actually dead, which explains strange island happenings including Locke's now working legs.

Stopped by to see whassup in the fic sitch, and found this discussion of Lost. Gotta share:

In our house, there are two television series that are watched obsessively: Lost and Deadwood. And someweeks - most weeks - Veronica Mars.

This week's Lost? The.best.episode.so. far. since the openers. Just freakin' incredible. And The Fury love? Nevah strongah. I can't take in all the references, the metaphors; it's one of the richest - maybe the richest - hours of TV I've seen in a long, long, time.

and Locke/Boone? I love them. I love Sayid/Shannon, too. Kate? meh. Hurley? OMG, I <3 him. Sun and Jin? Love 'em,too. The creepy kid? Creepy.....

and, of course they're dead. They're all dead. They're in some kind of purgatory/hell, with no way out.

I can't take in all the references, the metaphors; it's one of the richest - maybe the richest - hours of TV I've seen in a long, long, time.

I keep going back to the religious metaphors - immaculate conception, drugs inside the statue of the Virgin Mary, Locke's belief in the island. Locke as Abraham, being asked to sacrifice his son to prove his faith? (Which would imply to me that Boone's not the one to die after all) And the title, Deus Ex Machina.

Sometimes I really love this show.

I'm surprised how much I love Sayid/Shannon, too. And yeah, I'm meh about Kate. She's pretty but (to me) uninteresting.

Ooh, it really would...

Interesting that Locke's paralysis lasted only until Boone got hurt. Was the island testing his faith or trying to cut him off from his one believer?

I'm pretty face-blind, but the little boy looked a lot like Boone to me - I suppose it depends how many years ago this was?

Yes, and what is the island exactly? There's *something* going on. And I'm starting to wonder at Abrams insistence that there's a non-mystical explanation for all this...

But wait, there is another...

Nah, Walt's not strong enough to build a trebuchet. *g*
