I've made a bit of an inroad into my defriend-a-thon. At the moment I'm only deleting people who don't have me friended. So they won't be reading this anyway, but if they do - sorry?

And now, a poll.

Just for the record, this is [livejournal.com profile] swmbo's evil doing. This was meant to be a short little poll to find out about fandom interests on my flist, and became this enormous thing. If you love me, fill it out, please?

For the purposes of this poll, I'm asking what fandoms do you currently consider yourself a member of? I'm defining fandom member as... hell, I don't know. I love Desperate Housewives, for instance, but I wouldn't say I'm part of fandom since I don't belong to communities, read or write fic or have DH discussions on my journal. Your definition of what's a fandom and what's something you like might be different. Whatever it is, come in and play.

[Poll #465588]
[Poll #465589]

ETA: damn, I forgot Veronica Mars, didn't I? D'oh. Well, that's what the 'other' boxes are for...
ETA2: I swear X-Men was in the comic section at some point, obviously got deleted, though. Oops.

Wow, I ticked alot of boxes. All fandoms are not created equal, however. At least, for me. I ticked shows/books that I actively watch/read/follow. Occasionally I will burble about most of these in my journal, but the Buffyverse is where I spend most of my time.

Wow. There's a bunch of those I didn't check, simply because of the currently caveat. I didn't realize I'd narrowed my fandom activities quite so much.

OTPs are hard because I'll pretty much read anyone with anyone else if the story interests me or it's been recommended to me based on stuff I like. However if I had to choose one OTP, it would totally be Mal and Serenity. He should never have another ship. (Ha - see what I did there? Um, yeah.)

I'm guessing "fandoms that don't currently exist but you'd like to help create when you find the time" don't count as current. If they do, then add "Greatest American Hero" for me under supernatural.

For my OTP answer, hmm. With some fandoms (like Firefly, The O.C. and ER) I have one 'ship for one person (Like, with Mal I ship Mal/Simon and Mal/Simon only). But with the Buffyverse (and Lost) I (usually) have at least two OTP's per character (Like Sawyer/Jack and Sawyer/Sayid)

My REAL fandom is Livejournal, man. I'll read and cackle over and discuss episodes of shows I've never even seen that show up on my friendslist--even reality TV, which I NEVER watch. I have a weird pseudounderstanding of "The Amazing Race" from [livejournal.com profile] miggy alone.

Anime and manga series are evil and insidious and lend themselves to polyfannishness more than anything else I have experienced. I started counting series that I am currently head-over-heels-in-love-with and gave up around twelve. They would not all fit in your textbox!! *sob* They are like potato chips, because you can't fangirl just one, and they have eaten my brain, and I faintly remember a time when I watched TV with actual living breathing human beings in it, but since "Angel" died that's gotten rarer and rarer. I WOULD watch "Veronica Mars" and "House", but I can never remember to stop playing on the Net and turn the TV on on Tuesdays.

As to OTPs, I have like five per fandom, and a rising number of OT3s. Polyfannishness lends itself to polyshipping. I think Gojyo/Hakkai from "Saiyuki" (see icon) has the distinction of my being my first official OTP slash ship, not in the sense of "I understand that they are not actually 100% canon but I reserve the right to cacklesquee anyway over the subtext" (a la Spike/Angel, etc.) but in the sense of "I understand that they are not actually 100% canon but I reserve the right to be heartbroken anyway if they hook up permanently with other people, regardless of gender." Because, REALLY. [/dorky fangirl]

(My icons are always a pretty good weathervane for my current fannish tendencies. This, my one Buffyverse icon to which I still cling, has a quote from "Cowboy Bebop" on it. I am doomed.)

I have an OTP for almost every fandom I'm in. Some are conventional, some are unconventional, some are m/m, some are m/f. Do they still count as One True Pairings if I have more than one? Well, they do in my heart. ;-)

Confused. Why are DA and tS "fantasy" and not "sci-fi"? I put DA as other b/c didn't see it on sci-fi. Whoops?

I ticked all the shows that I currently read fic for as well as watch. "The Collector" being the one exception as there *is* no fic for it yet. But I'm planning a vid that will be made as soon as the series reaches the states (and is thus downloadable), so it totally counts. Totally.

Also, that you put PR on the list makes me giggle. I was totally expecting to have to put that under "other". heee.

Wow, this was really hard to answer; I only ticked things I at least occasionally read fic for or discuss. Just liking Cowboy Bebop doesn't put me in fandom for it, for example.

I think it's hard to get involved in the fandom for a long-running show when you're first watching, too; like, I'm watching X-Files from the beginning because I didn't watch more than like S2 and S3 back in the day, and I don't remember the canon at all. I don't want to go looking for recs and fandom sites because I don't want to be spoiled! :)

My shipping preferences vary fandom to fandom. In some, I have no ships at all, which is delightful. OT3, slash, het, canon, UC, it's all good, though the one thing I don't do is RPS. Pretty much everything else is up for grabs.

I really can't say that I have an overall One True Pairing.

Whoa, the comment button text is different..

Anyway, I guess my definition of being in a fandom is kind of loose. As long as I've watched/read a good deal of it and have read fic on it, and would read fic about it still, and I've thought about it in a fannish way, then I consider it a fandom.

This is a very big survey o_0

That was sooo hard!!

I was like 'what do I call something where I read fic but don't read/watch source text? Where I watch the show obsessively and like to talk about it, but don't care about the fic?'

Not only are there so many different ways to be involved in fandom, there are so many different ways to approach each one and ... wow.

Plus I totally cheated and said things like "DOCTOR WHO" even though I don't kow what will happen with the new series...

And then there are fandoms that I am involved in in my heart, even if I don't have current interaction...

Ooh, that's a very good question. I mean, I've seen about 2 episodes of The Professionals ever but I've read buckets of slash. I've never even seen one episode of The Sentinel.

I only ticked off shows I've actually written/or read a heck of a lot something for -- and as for the OTP Question: I have more than OTP and they are m/m and m/f. I love Het and Slash equally! I see love, I see love and I OTP it. And neither of my OTP's are canon so I guess that makes them unconvential. So my answer for that is: m/m unconvential AND m/f unconvential.

I know - I have seen NO Due South or The Sentinel at all and only a few episodes of Stargate - but that's the fic I've been devouring lately. And then I am watching Medium and adoring it and yet there's no fic-need. Same with Alias, actually - I devoured the first two and a half season on DVD really quickly but I don't read the fic.

So it makes me feel spoiled with AtS and Buffy where I loved the fic and the show both so much, in such different ways.

Heh, I've become so obsessed with anime/manga I couldn't fit all my current interests in the box! (Which is all [livejournal.com profile] octopedingenue's fault, btw.)

My list: Samurai Champloo, Naruto, Bleach, Fullmetal Alchemist, Princess Tutu, Death Note, and Avatar: the Last Airbender (it is anime in American cartoon's clothing).

The hardest question for me to answer was the shipping one. I have so many ships and variations it was hard to peg out *one* as an OTP. Surprisingly, it actually turned out to be canon m/f.

CARTOON/ANIME/MANGA: Okay, deep breath. Outlaw Star, Sakura Wars, Wolf's Rain, Vandread, Trigun, Big O, Zatch Bell, Ruroni Kenshin, Teen Titans, Justice League Unlimited, Dirty Pair Flash, Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi, Fullmetal Alchemist, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Witch Hunter Robin & Yu Yu Hakusho are the series I follow almost religiously. Kiki's Delivery Service, Spirited Away and Final Fantasy: Legend of the Crystals are my movies that I adore. Princess Ai is the only manga I read.

Like I said, 20. And if we were adding in plain cartoons as well, any Scooby Doo cartoon series as well as movie plus Fairly Odd Parents and My Dad the Rock Star are on my fandomy lists.

OTP: It seriously depends on the fandom for me. In BtVS & A:tS, I'm all about the UC M/F pairings. In the CSI fandom, I'm more of a Con M/F pairings person. Both fandoms are ones where I actually have MTPs (Multiple True Pairings).

Where I strictly have an OTP, like for House, it's an implied Con M/F pairing (House/Cameron). Most others it's a Con M/F OTP, too, with one or two exceptions, usually in the Anime section (where I have my one and only UC F/F OTP and that's for Dirty Pair Flash).

I defined fandom as only those which I've seen and/or read all of and am currently either reading fic in, watching/making vids for, or making icons/fanart/etc for.

As for OTPs, mine cover most of the choices so I chose UC M/F because it covers my top 3: Lex/Lana, Logan/Veronica, Sark/Sydney.

Yup, I define "fandom member" the same way you do: What I talk about (on and offline), read about, comment on. Around here, I look at current icons for the best snapshot of someone's Fandoms of the Moment. And I use my info page to keep track of my own fandoms and where they stand -- because it gets very confusing and there is a hierarchy :) Mine is pretty much determined by fic. I read one Spuffy fic for [livejournal.com profile] fandom_aid, but other than that it's been 99% Smallville for many months.

Speaking of Spuffy, before my (first) Obession Transference, the OTP question would've been easy. I liked many BtVS 'ships and even 'shipped Spike with no less than three different characters, but in the end, it was all about Spike and Buffy. But then came SV and Lex and Clark, which is so epic and tragic and which I will never see onscreen, and now QAF and Brian and Justin which I do see onscreen. (In all it's glory, heh.) How to choose? I think we should get one OTP per fandom ;-)

Thanks for the fun poll!

In the past I was also Passions fan (I nearly cried when I found out that they only aired the first season here) I still sometimes watch my old tapes. Oh, and then there is Night and Day which is also good, and uh, one British show I can't remember the name of in English. And then various movies that I'm not even gonna go into.
