Forget confirmation of the Angel/Spike subtext. I just read an interview with John Glover (Lionel Luthor) where he talks at length about the fact that he thinks Lionel is in love with Chloe.

To all those in the Northern hemisphere, I apologize for deafening you all with my shriek of happiness that not only am I not imagining things, John Glover shares my dirtywrongOTP. I know this will never ever appear on the show - if they didn't go for it with the bodyswap, they never will - but it makes me happy.

Isn't he lovely? But what does it mean for Lionel Luther to be in love with someone? Except with Ma Kent, Lionel seems to have attended the Angelus School of Love: get their attention with a series of atrocities, show them how bright and creative you are by coming up with new forms of pain, and demonstrate how well you know them with perfectly-tailored custom mindfucks. Hmmm... sounds about right.

You have to see the season 4 episode Transference. Lionel and Clark switch bodies and hijinks ensue. Lionel happily perving on Martha, Chloe and Lana is a wonderful thing.

I may actually have to go back to watching Smallville just for this episode. Damn you! (I mostly stopped watching halfway through S3, but managed to catch the last part of the season finale, where they totally rip off that Cate Blanchett movie (Elizabeth) by using Mozarts' Requim. I swore I wouldn't watch ever again after that)

But the lure of the wacky body-swap hijinks may prove too much for me. Grr.
