Hee! I have a birthmark on the back of my right hand, a perfect light tan oval at the base of my thumb. Because of this, I missed the whole right/left learning roadblock.
I had a friend who, when he was little, took his bicycle down to the police station for Bike Rodeo Day - lots of games and obstacle courses, all geared toward bicycle safety.
For the Bike Rodeo, you had to know right from left, but my poor friend had no convenient birthmark, so on the way over to the police station, he gnawed on the back of his right hand till he got this nasty bright welt. That got him through the Rodeo, anyway.
