(Okay, writing this felt bizarrely like picking daisies in a fandom minefield - particularly when it came down to being too anti/pro Spike - so I'm pulling the unreliable narrator card for anything that looks like character bashing in this. Dude, if you know me, you know I would not bash for anything. So, fic-wise, Giles is blaming himself, blaming Buffy either too much or too little depending on your point of view, and it's nebulous how much either of them blame Spike. Whether any of this blame is fair or not is an open question.)
