SFX Awards

My favourite part of this month's SFX awards - which are nearly exactly the same as last year...

in the "worst thing to happen in 2002" they have "Cordelia's hair" listed as "bizarre reader nomination". That was me! Go me!

Love the letter about Andrew's sexuality and the editor's plea to not give the slash fans more ideas, while a page later one of his staff writers admits she's havnig sleepless nights thinking about what Angel and Spike might get up to together.

Fanfic pet peeve of the day

What's up with author notes in the middle of the text?

I've seen this in quite a few fanfics I've read over the last couple of days. Stuff like, to give a made-up example:

'Spike and Buffy were slow-dancing to the song Iris (A/N: I love that song it is soooo kewl!1!! lol'

Can you imagine if published authors did this?

'It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a large fortune must be in want of a wife. (A/N: My best friend says this is the best opening eva!!1!)'

'He drew a light breath and said lightly but softly: "my dear, I don't give a damn." (A/N:Sooooorrree to all who wanted a happy ending but this is what it had to be!!1!')'

' "Oh Cathy! Oh, my life! How can I bear it?" was the first sentence he uttered, in a tone that did not seek to disguise his despair. (A/N: This is my first novel & is way better than my sisters writing!!! Pleeeze R&R!!)'
