If it makes you feel better, the DVD sets cost more than double the price here. I know -- I've seen the prices at amazon UK -- just ridiculous ... I actually got desperate a few months back and bought the UK versions of Buffy S4 and S5 on DVD then fiddled with the regional settings on my work laptop's DVD player so that I could watch them. Now I can't play/run any US CDs or DVDs from that computer, but hey, it's worth it :-)
