Trying to work on my sekrit Santa story but getting stuck on some things.

For anybody who lives in LA - is there a big Christmas tree goes up every year like in New York? (I'm working entirely from movie knowledge here). When and where is it, erm, erected? And does it actually get cold in California in the winter?

(I'd offer to answer questions about Ireland in return, but considering some of what we saw of Galway in the season 2 flashbacks - hell, make it up, you'll do as well as the show did)

My Secret Slasha story: eep. Love the pairing, but I'm using it to try to work through my block about having the couple in a relationship at the beginning of the story. Hope the victim recipient doesn't mind too much.

My Dawnfic's done. Yuletide: 1 done and 1 needs one more scene. This is far more organised than I thought I'd be...

Los Angeles weather: I used to live there (almost 30 years ago, and I'm 33) and I've lived near, and no. They'll insist it's cold and wear warm jackets, but it isn't. I just checked The Weather Underground (http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=los+angeles), and normal minimum temperature in LA for Dec. 10 is 48 degrees, and the record low, from over 100 years ago, is 34 degrees. (Fahrenheit, BTW.)

And for the tree? No idea. One thing to remember is that there isn't really a center to LA. Dorothy Parker said there's no there there. It's such a distributed thing, so I kinda doubt it. Could be wrong. Think I would've heard of it if I was.

I live in L.A., and I can't think of any tree thing like that. In terms of coldness, it generally doesn't get colder than 50 degrees Fahrenheit. But if you live here, you tend to think of that as cold, because you're not used to colder (and that's true even if you used to live someplace that gets really cold - my mom's from Chicago, which gets bitterly cold, but now she finds the mild L.A. winters as cold as I do, who was born here!). Hence, I would say yes, it gets cold in winter here - but it's all relative.

Oh, and P.S., it does get colder than 50 degrees F at night - I was talking more about daytime weather.

How cold does it get at night? Say, late December?

Would people be more likely to have real trees in their houses or fake ones? If the trees are real, where do people buy them?

(Sorry for all the questions! And it's probably not necessary because at the time I'm writing the Beast has blocked out the sun so it's probably cold regardless)

Generally it won't get colder than 40 F. People have real Christmas trees as a rule, and they buy them at Christmas tree lots, like in "Amends"!

Okay: big trees. L.A., unlike New York, is not very centralized, so there's not one, big tree. However, the Grove, which is a relatively new outdoor but enclosed shopping center in the Fairfax/Miracle Mile/Mid-Wilshire neighborhood, puts up a huge tree in its central courtyard and has a big tree-lighting ceremony that airs on the WB and, this year, featured Kenny G. It was truly horrifying.

Also, the Beverly-Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills (it's the hotel where Warren Beatty used to live) puts up a huge tree made of lights (just lights - no actual tree) and I'm pretty sure a large public tree is also put up on the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica.

It gets kind of cold in the winter, especially at night. Let's just say, you don't want to go outside without a jacket, but gloves tend to be optional, and you can almost never see your breath.

Hope that helps.
