Ohh...

I have the chills. You start out with Stephen's existence so ordinary and yet sad, dealing with his unknown past. And then add all of the little touches, those who generally alter their state of mind still able to remember events. So perfect.

More than his father had done for him. He scowled at the memory: pounding heart and a line of fire across his throat as the blade slashed down. His reflection was gone, so he couldn't check for a scar on his neck. He couldn't feel one. Stephen hadn't had one, but Stephen wasn't real.

And to end with THAT...it feels horrible and complete at the same time. Thank you so very, very much.
