Squee...

I'm late to the party, I know, but I finally got to see Soulless last night (I only see my dealer... I mean "downloader"... on Wednesday, so we're a week behind the US for Angel). I'll add my "squee!" to the throngs.

I loved Angelus before this episode. Now I'm totally his bitch. I want to make tiny evil babies with him. Don't get me wrong, I adore the souled-up version but... say his soul were never to return, it wouldn't be so bad, would it? Would it?

On to the episode... I swear, there were at least four times when I had to ask if the writers had sneaked into my room, drugged me up and asked me what my perfect episode would be. Then put it on screen. Ages back [livejournal.com profile] connorbeast and I discussed a story idea with Angelus caged in the hotel basement, taunting Connor and Wesley as they tried to get information from him a la Silence of the Lambs. Of course, our version was slashier. But not much. Replace "Fred" with "Connor" in his conversation with Wesley and there you go.

About that Angelus/Wes conversation? That blew Smallville off the screen for HoYay goodness. "Feelin' the love". Heh.

I loved Connor's reaction to the deaths of the family. VK is IMHO a damn good actor. And how long is it since one of the Sunnydale or LA crew expressed grief for someone they'd never met? (That's rhetorical, I'm sure those with better memories than me could tell me) Connor all dressed up in daddy's clothes - and sitting in Angel's chair - was interesting.

The flashback was dodgy, scenery-wise (it looked like some of those old BBC historical things we used to watch in school), but a step up from season's 2 downright hilarious depiction of 18th-century Ireland.

How the hell did Angelus's little speech about tossing off (if you'll pardon the expression) while listening to Fred and Gunn have sex get past the censors? And the "smooth head" double-entendre? Or do I just have a wrong image of the WB as not the kind of channel to usually let the definitely-not-subtextual smut through? Sky is going to cut this episode to ribbons. We're talking opening titles, Lorne being funny and credits, folks.

I know there was a lot more I loved, but I'm in a happy Angelus (and Angelus/Wesley) haze. Even spoiled as I was, I still cheered the stealing of the soul. More Angelus! More HoYay! More Teddy Bears' Picnic! Hurrah!
