Joyce!

Last night [livejournal.com profile] connorbeast and I were looking at my list of pairings I've recced for my site (I *will* find them all. I will.) and we came to a few conclusions:

- Wesley is a man-whore.
- so is Spike.
- Joyce doesn't get *nearly* enough lovin'.

Now, I know there's good Joyce/Spike out there and I've found JOYFFA and I'm planning to raid it for fics, but it's a travesty that poor Joyce doesn't get the kind of fic action that other characters do (Pre-The Body or AU, obviously). I want some Joyce/Gunn, dammit! Joyce/Riley! Joyce/Holden Webster! And [livejournal.com profile] connorbeast wants Joyce/Jessica Fletcher from Murder She Wrote, but that's a different kettle of fish.

We may have to issue a Joyce fic challenge just to redress this shameful, shameful balance.

This lead to us deciding that ...

Our spinoff would be set in the summer between season 3 and 4. With Buffy in LA, Joyce joins a local bookgroup to keep herself occupied. There she meets up with Tara, who's just moved to Sunnydale and doesn't know anyone, and Andrew, who's about to become a high school senior and who wants a group he can share his love of The Bridges of Madison County with.

And the three of them would solve mysteries. They might have a van (which may or may not travel in time). Their HQ would be the Summers living room, with occasional forays to the gallery. Tara would contribute her magic, Andrew his tech skills and cookery ability, and Joyce her caring momness. Every week would end with Buffy calling to ask how her mom's been and Joyce saying "oh, same as always, dear" with an OTT wink at the camera.

Joyce would spend a lot of time wondering why Andrew and Tara didn't date each other, since they'd be an adorable couple. Andrew would piss off the book group by trying to get them to read Spider-Man Issue #15, and storm off in a sulk at the suggestion that comics aren't literature. Oh, and their book group would hold an interstate convention that would let Joyce meet the moms from the Smallville chapter.

And connorbeast wants Joyce/Jessica Fletcher from Murder She Wrote

How old do y'all think the actress who played Buffy's mom is?

Hee. See, we don't know Joyce's hometown, so we figured she could be from the place where Mrs. Fletcher used to teach high-school English...

It occurs that we spend too much time thinking about things like this.

I love your spinoff idea! How fun, especially the wink at the end of every episode.

Never cared that much for Joyce, but add in some of my Dawnie to your spin-off and I'd so be there.

I have nothing at all to say except that your icon makes me think, "Have you come here to play Jesus / to the leopards in your head." Which makes me giggle.

Speaking as someone who is not that much younger than Christine whatever-her-name is...her having an affair with Jessica Fletcher would be like...well, her having an affair with somebody's grandma. Ahem.

Personally, I think Joyce should have an affair with Oz. ;)

Joyce! You make me want to put this icon back into rotation here:

[livejournal.com profile] dolores has talked about casting Kristine Sutherland in a new version of Murder, She Wrote, so hee! about Joyce/Jessica Fletcher.

JOYFFA is the best possible source for all your Joyce needs.

Hit me up with some Joyce-centric ideas and I'll see what I can do. Viva la Joyce!

Write the spin-off because we always need the fun and wacky.

I love my icon. And yes, it makes me sing U2, because even though I intellectually *know* that it's 'lepers', I sing leopards anyway...

Well, personally I'd love to see some Joyce/Gunn. Or Joyce/Wesley. Or Joyce/Angel. On the femslash side, Joyce/Lilah? For crossovers, the idea of Joyce/Tyler-from-Fight-Club is so delicious that I may have to write it. Of course, if you can manage Joyce/Bender-from-Futurama you will be as a god.

Well, a friend and I wrote some Angelus/Joyce: http://www.livejournal.com/users/j_crew_guy/226635.html

And I am now working on the Joyce/Bender, difficult though it may be.

I also express interest in a Joyceficathon here: http://www.livejournal.com/users/j_crew_guy/363207.html

Even though I know interest will most likely be minimal. I mean, the ml I run for Joyce-centric discussion and fic has 50 members (and topped out somewhere around 60 or so, I believe).
